A Family Room for Relaxing

This active family needed a room that was both cozy and relaxing, but also suitable for entertaining their large extended family. The clients were looking for a modern farmhouse style — a stark contrast to their existing room, which was outdated and underwhelming. Heavy French doors closed the room off from the rest of the house, interrupting the natural flow of circulation.

Location: Chester County

Designer Credits: Mary Jo Long

Project Overview:

This family room is adorned with a custom large sofa that includes a right arm facing cuddler chaise that is upholstered in a snow-white performance fabric. Wrought iron hardware in antique pewter shows off the custom drapes in a beige linen fabric. The leading edge of the drapes matches the fabric of the sofa pillows, keeping a cohesive theme. A two-toned swivel accent chair with a flamestitch pattern coordinates with the custom window seats flanking a new, natural stone fireplace, while a power recliner is upholstered in a heathered gray woven performance fabric. White ceramic lamps imitate birch wood and sit upon distressed oak tables with iron accents, adding both soft light and natural textures. A blue 100% wool hand-knotted rug grounds the room with a raised-textured pattern.
